Celebrating its 21st year, Pollution Probe’s* Clean Air Commute (CAC) is a week-long, friendly competition among workplaces that encourages workplace commuters to choose more sustainable modes of transportation rather than driving to work alone. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion and to improve local air quality.
Last year approximately over 15,000 employees from 257 workplaces participated! preventing the release of more than 555 tonnes of air pollutants over one week.
Step 1 – Decide that the people in your workplace ♥ clean air.
Step 2 – Designate a coordinator at your workplace.
Step 3 – Your coordinator visits www.cleanaircommute.ca to register their workplace.
There is a nominal fee to participate.
We provide ongoing support to your coordinator to register and throughout the event. Posters and template communications are provided to assist with your internal campaign. An incentive prize will be supplied to each participating workplace to generate excitement and encourage employees to register. Fun and educational lunchtime clinics are also offered (subject to availability) covering various related topics.
Your employees will show how they ♥ clean air by getting involved in the friendly competition and recording how they commuted to and from work using an interactive Commuter Log on our website during Clean Air Commute week, June 17 – 23, 2013.
At the end of the week we share your workplace results with you and celebrate with great prizes and awards.
Your workplace can be an important contributor in helping to improve our local air quality and make our city a better place to live. Participation also:
- Promotes physical and mental wellness helping to decrease commuter-related stress.
- Demonstrates environmental responsibility and supports health, safety and environmental initiatives.
- Engages your staff in team building activities that are fun, cost effective and require minimal human resources to execute.
- Generates workplace excitement with participation incentive prizes and fun lunchtime clinics (subject to availability).
The draw will take place at the Wrap-Up & Awards Ceremony scheduled in July. The winners do not have to be present at the party. The location of the party will be announced in the near future and invitations will go to all Clean Air Commute Coordinators and sponsors/supporters. You are welcome to bring a guest to the event.
Employees at workplaces that have registered will show how they ♥ clean air by getting involved in the friendly competition and recording how they commuted to and from work using an interactive Commuter Log on our website www.cleanaircommute.ca during Clean Air Commute week, June 17 – 23, 2013.
The Commuter Log (an online tracking tool), will add up the weight of pollutants that you keep out of the air by using alternatives to driving alone. Even if you can participate for only one day, you can fill out your Commuter Log and be eligible to win great prizes.
Note: There is a paper commuter log available in the online Coordinator Kit for commuters without access to a computer.
Yes. When a Coordinator registers their workplace at www.cleanaircommute.ca they are automatically set up as a Commuter as well. They get involved in the friendly competition and record how they commuted to and from work using the interactive Commuter Log on www.cleanaircommute.ca during Clean Air Commute week, June 18 – 24, 2012. There are lots of great prizes and awards to be won by participants!
Return your paper Commuter Logs to Pollution Probe by Wednesday, June 27. If your company/organization is part of the Smart Commute program, return them to your Smart Commute contact person by Tuesday, June 26.
They can still participate in the Clean Air Commute. Any employee who commutes in a well maintained vehicle with properly inflated tires has used a clean air commuting method. However, you should encourage employees to take it one step further by carpooling, taking transit, etc.
Your workplace can win by having the highest percentage of clean air commuters, relative to all employees. This is calculated by dividing the submitted Commuter Logs by the number of employees in your organization.
There is an award for each size category, as outlined in the registration process.
If your workplace has the highest percentage of clean air commuters in your size category, then you will be presented with an award at our wrap-up ceremony in July (your official invitation will arrive in June).
If you are unable to register as a commuter, make sure that your workplace has registered. In order to be able to register as a commuter, your workplace must first have registered to take part in the Clean Air Commute.
If you indicated your interest in clinics and webinars during the registration process, you will be contacted with a list of available options.
If you indicated no interest in clinics and webinars during registration but have now changed your mind, please email cleanaircommute@pollutionprobe.org to request the list.
